Pets Diet - Yumilicious Meals

In addition to Complete Diet advice on which staple diet of your pets should be based here are some recipes to add variety to your pets diet.

DOGS:

Quick Canine Oatmeal

  • 2 cups raw rolled oats ( or 4 cups cooked oatmeal)
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 2  large eggs
  • 1 table spoon Healthy Powder
  • 1000mg  Calcium Powder

Bring 4 cups of water to boil. Add the oats cover and turn off the heat, letting the oats cook in the hot water for about 10 minutes or until soft. Then stir in the milk, eggs, Healthy Powder and Calcium.

Daily Ration: Toy breeds-2-3 cups; small-about 6; medium 9 to 10; Large-11 to 12; giant-14+

Jasmine’s Lamb Delight

  • 1 pound ground  or chopped lamb meat
  • ½ pound  lamb kidneys, chopped
  • ½  pound whole barley
  • ½ pound carrots coarsely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons kelp powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 4-6 cups spring water

Combine all the ingredients in a stainless steel pot with enough water to cover. Bring to boil, and then lower the heat and simmer for 30 minutes or until the carrots are soft. Remove from heat and let cool. With electric hand mixer or blender blend all ingredients into nice puree. Whatever you won’t use within 3-4 days you can freeze and serve later.

Daily Ration:

DOG WEIGHT TOTAL DAILY PORTION
Up to 10 pounds 1-1 ½ cups
11 to 20 pounds 2-3 cups
21- 41 pounds 4 cups
over 41 pounds 5-6 cups

 

CATS:

Feline Feast

  • 1 cup cornmeal or polenta
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or butter (or one tablespoon each)
  • 4 cups ground turkey or chicken (or lean chuck, lean beef heart, lean
  • hamburger, liver, giblets, fish or other lean meats) 4 tablespoons
  • Healthy powder
  • 2000 mg Calcium Powder
  • 10 000 IU Vitamin A
  • 100 IU Vitamin E
  • 500 mg taurine supplement (optional)

Bring 4 cups of water to boil. Add the cornmeal or polenta stirring rapidly to keep it from getting lumpy. When it is thoroughly blended cover and simmer for 10 minutes. When cornmeal or polenta is creamy, stir in the eggs and oil and butter. Mix in the remaining ingredients.

Daily ration (in cups): Small-3/4; medium-1+; large 11/4-2 cups.

Occasionally it is a good idea to use fattier grades of meat, but eliminate the oil and butter when you do. For example you can substitute heart with regular, fat showing hamburger, poultry with skin.  Grain can be substituted with 1cup (dry volume) of any of the following: bulgur, millet, buckwheat, barley, brown rice, couscous, amaranth, spelt or quinoa.

Big Mack for Cats

  • 1 ½ pounds mackerel fillets or sardines ( fresh if possible, or frozen, never canned)
  • ½ pound carrots, coarsely chopped
  • ½ pound celery, coarsely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon kelp powder
  • 4-6 cups spring water

Combine all the ingredients in a stainless steel pot with enough water to cover. Bring to boil, and then lower the heat and simmer for 30 minutes or until the carrots are soft. Remove from heat and let cool. With electric hand mixer or blender blend all ingredients into nice puree. Whatever you won’t use within 2 days you can freeze and serve later.

Daily ration: 1-3 cups depending on the size of the cat.
